How to become a mortgage loan officer at PRMI

You do not need mortgage experience to start. You need a license, a lender that will train you, and enough product to say yes to the borrower in front of you.

Get licensed

In-house training for the NMLS licensing exam, plus education on loan products and the technology you will use every day.

Learn the products

Conventional, FHA, VA and USDA, jumbo, renovation and non-QM, so the answer to an unusual file is rarely no.

Build a pipeline

A proprietary sales-enablement platform that sources borrowers and strengthens the agent relationships that drive repeat business.

Corporate support without corporate drag

What PRMI gives a loan officer to originate with

24–48 hour underwriting

New underwrites are typically returned in 24–48 hours, handled in-house, not outsourced to a black box you cannot call.

A dedicated team, app to funding

Support that drives your loan from application to funding, so your time goes to originating instead of managing files.

Direct access

Talk to the people actually working your loan when it matters, instead of a ticket queue.

Compliance handled

Policies, monitoring and quality control maintained at the platform level, and company licensing managed across markets.

AI sales enablement

A proprietary platform that identifies opportunities, automates personalized follow-up, and surfaces the business already in your database.

Marketing that brings borrowers

Search- and AI-ready consumer content, local landing pages and campaigns built to bring real homebuyers to you.

You’ve built the production. Now build the enterprise.

Mortgage branch opportunities: open or move a branch

You already know how to originate loans, earn trust and grow relationships. Your next move should give you the ability to build a team, influence your market, and participate in the long-term value you create. At PRMI you aren’t joining to fit inside someone else’s branch. You’re joining to build your own.

Entrepreneurial freedom

PRMI was founded by loan originators who wanted the freedom to succeed on their own terms. That autonomy is built into how branches run.

Selfless partnership

The best partnerships are rooted in selflessness. We put our partners first, a shared commitment to each other’s success.

“Red Shoes” service

An unmatched experience happens when every party to a transaction performs as the best version of themselves.

A battle-tested model

PRMI has weathered the storms and triumphs of the mortgage industry for 28 years, and is stronger for it.

The freedom to lead. The infrastructure to scale.

Move from individual production to enterprise leadership with recruiting support, branch-opening resources and a repeatable growth system.

Build lasting value

Create value beyond this month’s closings through defined profit participation and a path to durable value in the business you run.

Common questions about mortgage careers

Is a mortgage loan officer a good career?

It suits people who want their income tied to their own effort and who like working with clients at a decisive moment. Pay is largely commission, so the first year is a build. What makes it durable is a database you own and referral relationships that repeat.

How long does it take to become a mortgage loan officer?

Most people are licensed within a few months: 20 hours of NMLS-approved pre-licensing education, the national exam, any state-specific requirements, then sponsorship by a licensed lender. PRMI provides training for the exam and for the products and technology you will use after it.

How do mortgage loan officers get paid?

Almost always on commission, as a share of the loan amount, under a compensation plan that federal rules require be set in advance. What differs between lenders is the split, what comes out of it, and whether you have any say in pricing. Ask about each one explicitly.

What is a net branch in a mortgage company?

An arrangement where a branch operates under a lender’s licenses while the branch manager runs the business and carries its economics. The term covers very different deals in practice. What matters is who holds the licensing risk, who owns the database, and how the P&L is actually calculated.

Can a loan officer open their own branch?

Yes, and it is the usual path: producing originators who have built enough volume and want to own the economics and hire a team. It does not require starting a mortgage company. A branch partnership provides the licensing, compliance, operations and capital markets, and you run the business.

Do you keep your clients and database when you change mortgage companies?

It depends on what you signed. Some lenders treat the database as company property. At PRMI your clients, referral partners and personal brand assets are yours. Get the answer in writing before you move, from anyone recruiting you.

Is PRMI hiring loan officers?

Yes. Open roles are posted on the PRMI jobs board, including originators, loan officer assistants and processors. Branch and division conversations usually start privately rather than through a posting.
