At Primary Residential Mortgage, Inc., we know winter is the perfect time to slow down and spend more time indoors with loved ones. We have some tips to help you make your home extra cozy and keep your heating bill down.

Add some textiles

Extra rugs, heavy drapes, soft throw pillows and extra blankets can provide extra insulation and instantly warm up a chilly space.

Let your oven pull double duty

After you’re done baking those cookies or that loaf of pumpkin bread, leave the oven door open as it cools down. All that residual heat—and delicious smell—will make your house cozier. If you do this, be sure to keep kids or pets safely away from the kitchen.

Install a smart thermostat

A smart thermostat learns and adapts to your schedule. So the heater will turn down while you’re at work, then kick on a bit before you get back so your home is nice and warm for your arrival.

Warm up your lighting

Swapping out cool-toned lightbulbs for warm-toned ones can make a room feel much more inviting and warm. While you’re at it, add an extra lamp or throw up some twinkle lights to make your space a bit brighter.

Change the direction of your ceiling fans

Depending on the model, you can either flip a switch on the motor to change the fan’s direction or physically rotate the blades. The blades will push warm air down into the room and help keep your heating bill down.

Install radiant floor heaters

If you dread stepping out of bed onto freezing floors in the morning, install radiant floor heating. (A refinance loan can get you some extra cash to pay for this upgrade.)
