How to Throw the Perfect Housewarming Party

Blog -- How to Throw the Perfect Housewarming Party

At Primary Residential Mortgage, Inc. we know how exciting it is to buy a new home. It’s certainly worthy of celebration, which is why we’re sharing our tips for throwing a fun, easy and affordable housewarming party that you and your loved ones can enjoy together.

Scheduling
  • Don’t be afraid to wait a few months: Moving into a new home is a huge undertaking. You don’t have to host a housewarming party weeks after you move. Feel free to wait until you’re more settled.
  • Shoot for nice weather if possible: Try to schedule your party during nice weather so you and your guests can spread out and spend time outside.
  • Have a big guest list? Schedule your event as an open house: House parties can get crowded quickly. If you’re inviting a lot of people over, limit crowding by hosting the party as an open house where guests can drop in and out throughout the evening.
Decorations

You don’t have to decorate for a housewarming party, but if you do, keep décor easy and simple. After all—you don’t want to distract too much from your cute new home. If you decide to decorate, consider some fresh flowers or string lights to make it feel more festive.

Food and drink

No party is complete without good food and drinks, but that doesn’t mean you have to spend the whole night in the kitchen. Keep it simple so you have time to actually visit with your guests.

  • Don’t be afraid to ask guests to bring veggies, fruit, crackers, desert or other easy snacks.
  • Focus on finger food that can be served room temperature so you can prep it ahead of time and avoid lots of clean up afterward.
  • If you’re providing more than snacks, consider grilling food outside. You can cook more food quickly, avoid heating up your kitchen and have space to visit with guests in the yard.
  • Set up a drink station so guests can get their own beverages.
Activities and ambiance
  • Take people on one-on-one tours as they arrive instead of trying to take the whole party on a group tour. This helps you avoid squishing the whole crowd into a narrow stairway and gives you the chance to have more personal chats with your guests.
  • Set up casual outdoor games that you won’t have to organize during the party. Easy options include corn hole (beanbag toss), badminton, horseshoes or a giant set of Jenga.
  • Prepare a playlist to avoid awkwardness when there are lulls in conversation. You can use portable Bluetooth speakers to take the music from room to room or outside to your yard.

Congratulations on your new home. The tips above will help you show off your house and impress your friends, but don’t forget to take time to relax and enjoy the party yourself.
