There are a number of different priorities you may have when entering the homebuying market, and keeping track of them is important as you move forward. For many, simply listing them all out and attaching related levels of importance to them is very helpful for prioritizing the right things during your search.

At Primary Residential Mortgage, we're happy to help clients in Dallas and around Texas find the home of their dreams, offering a wide selection of home loan options and the best mortgage rates in town. What are some of the chief areas to consider as you enter the homebuying market? Here are several to keep in mind.

Location and Commute Times

Location is typically one of the very first priorities for anyone looking at homes. Do you want to be near the city, in a suburban neighborhood, or out in the country? Each location has its own trade-offs and considerations when it comes to convenience and commute times. Keep track of how far different locations are from your workplace or other important places so that you can compare them objectively.

As you're location shopping, make sure to factor in estimated commute times and distances when making decisions. Do you want to be able to walk or bike somewhere? Or is a short drive acceptable? How much driving are you willing to do? Having an idea of how accessible different locations will be can help determine where the best place for your needs might be.

Schools in the Area

Down related lines, many potential homebuyers prioritize the local schools in the area. If you have children or plan to, researching their quality and what they offer can be of great help when deciding on a location.

For instance, if you have children in school already, will they be able to switch over smoothly? Are there specific schools that offer programs or classes that would benefit your family? Even if children aren't a factor right now, researching local schools can give insight into the overall quality of life and educational opportunities for the locals.

Home Size Needs

You should also be aware of your size needs when searching for homes. How much space will you require and what kind of features do you need? Do you have enough bedrooms for a growing family or pets? Is the location near amenities such as outdoor recreation areas or public transportation stops?

Knowing the answers to these questions can help narrow down your search and make it easier to find a home that meets your needs.

In part two of our series, we'll go over some additional considerations to make during the homebuying process. In the meantime, if you're in the Dallas area and need help with your mortgage needs, Primary Residential Mortgage is here for you. Contact us today to get started!
