Replacing the floor is a great way to give any room a new look. But installing the wrong flooring could be a costly mistake. Security First Financial is here to help. Choose the right new flooring for your home with these helpful ideas.

Consider How You Use the Room

Kitchens and bathrooms should have moisture-resistant flooring, like linoleum. Carpeting can be good for going barefoot in the bedroom. Hardwood can make your home’s entryway pop. Choose the right flooring type for the room.

Get Tough on High Traffic Areas

If you’re installing flooring in a high traffic area, opt for a more durable material that can stand up to wear and tear.

Tile and hardwood flooring are great options for busy areas. Laminate and vinyl are some other more affordable options.

Avoid carpeting in high traffic areas. Over time, the carpet in the high traffic area will stretch and fade until it no longer looks the same as the rest of the carpet. With enough time, the carpet in that area could wear though entirely.

Save the carpeting for the cozier areas of your home.

Give Pets a Place in the Decision

When considering how much traffic your new floor will get, don’t forget about your four-legged friends. Claws and paws can do a lot of damage to flooring. We recommend sturdy, easy-to-clean flooring in pet areas. Tile is a good call.

If you know your pet regularly causes damage in one particular area, get a rug to protect that part of the floor.

Make a Maintenance Decision

Some floors require more maintenance than others. The type and color of the floor, the dust content in the room and even the lighting can make a difference in how your floor looks and how long it lasts.

For something low maintenance, go with concrete, tile or vinyl. Pick a pattern that will hide the minor stains that can occur over time.

You Have Many Flooring Options

You have more choices than just carpet or hardwood. Check out all of these common flooring options.

  • Bamboo
  • Ceramic Tile
  • Concrete
  • Cork
  • Engineered Wood
  • Hardwood
  • Laminate
  • Linoleum
  • Porcelain Tile
  • Rubber
  • Sheet Vinyl
  • Stone Tile
  • Vinyl Plank
  • Vinyl Tile

Take Style and Color Seriously

Choose the type, color and style of your floor wisely, especially if you plan on selling the house in the future.

Your floor is often the largest feature in your room. You may like a bold color on a sample but find it overwhelming when applied to the whole floor. Keep the majority of your floor a traditional, light color. Save the bold colors for accents.

If you’re ready for a new floor, or any other renovations, we can help you get your project off the ground by providing the financing.
